Defence Headquarters receives 20 improved Armour Personnel Carriers: Insecurity

The Defence Headquarters has received 20 improved versions of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC’s) to boost the fight against insecurity in Nigeria


This is contained in a statement by Brig.-General Tukur Gusau,Director Defence Information in Abuja.


He said the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, handed over the documents and keys of the APC to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa.


Kana, represented the Minister of Defence, Alh. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar at the handover ceremony.



Kana said the APC’s had improved weapons and communication systems that could locate adversaries from a distance and engage them effectively, allowing for seamless military operations.


He said the production of the APC’s by a local manufacturer was a welcome development.


According to him, the move will save the nation a lot of money, creating employment while reducing reliance on foreign currency.


He said the machines would go a long way in boosting ongoing military operations aimed at tackling insecurity in the country.


Musa pledged the commitment of the military to put the carriers into optimum use.


According to the statement, the APC’s were produced and supplied by an indigenous company based in Nigeria.


It stressed that the chairman of the company, Engr. Kola Balogun, said the company would train operators while providing after purchase services like maintenance, spare parts and repairs.


According to him, the company will soon begin the process of exporting the machines in order to earn foreign currency for Nigeria.
