New Era Begins: Finidi George Unveiled as Head Coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles

John Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has introduced Finidi George as the new head coach of Nigeria's men's national team, the Super Eagles.

In an event held at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and attended by leaders of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), the Minister presented the former Super Eagles forward as the team's new coach.

The Minister stated,   Expressing his pride in having a Nigerian coach leading the team

"Any country  I find an indigenous coach sitting on the bench, I always feel very proud. I am glad that we have the opportunity to have Finidi George, a Nigerian coach, as the head coach of the men's national team."

Finidi George, previously an assistant to Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, assumed the role permanently following Peseiro's departure. He had served as Peseiro's assistant during the last African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where Nigeria secured a second-place finish.

The Minister emphasized on the government's strong support for Nigerian football under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, underscoring the importance of rallying behind the team.

George's appointment was made official several weeks ago after he led the team on an interim basis for international friendly matches against Ghana and Mali. 

His upcoming task as the substantive Head Coach will be leading the team in the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa's Bafana Bafana in June.
