According to sources at Punch, it has been revealed that Tinubu, in a move to alleviate the burden on Nigerians, has urged the CBN to delay the implementation of the cybersecurity levy.

"The President is attuned to the sentiments of Nigerians and is committed to avoiding policies that could further strain them," said a source familiar with the matter. "Therefore, he has advised the CBN to temporarily halt the implementation and conduct a thorough review."

The source clarified, "This directive is not a reflection of insensitivity but rather a recognition of the circumstances. The law in question predates the current administration and its implementation was set in motion long before Tinubu assumed office. He aims to ensure that his government is perceived as responsive to the needs of the people."

Emphasizing Tinubu's stance, the source added, "Tinubu is mindful of the impact on citizens and is not inclined towards imposing unnecessary taxes. Hence, he has instructed a comprehensive reassessment of the legislation."

The postponement comes as a relief to many, as the CBN has halted its directive to banks regarding the levy, demonstrating the President's sensitivity to the concerns of the populace.
