President Bola Tinubu has announced the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, aimed at addressing issues in the livestock sector and mitigating the persistent conflicts between farmers and herders.

The new ministry, which was previously part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, will focus on implementing the Nigeria Livestock Master Plan.

The plan, inaugurated last year, aims to enhance the productivity of the livestock sector, which is crucial for the country's food security and economic development

The decision to establish this ministry stems from the need to modernize livestock production and find lasting solutions to the farmer-herder conflicts that have significantly impacted Nigeria's food security and social harmony.

The ministry is expected to introduce innovative livestock production practices, promote environmental conservation, and reduce dependency on imported livestock products

The establishment of this ministry aligns with President Tinubu's broader agricultural reform agenda and his commitment to improving the livelihoods of pastoralists and farmers through sustainable development practices
