Defence Chief and Sports Minister Unite for Successful Africa Military Games 2024

In preparation for the Africa Military Games (AMGA) 2024, scheduled to take place in Abuja from November 5 to 18, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, met with Senator John Owan Enoh, the Honourable Minister of Sports, to seek his support and collaboration.

General Musa underscored the pivotal role of the Sports Ministry in ensuring the Games' success. He congratulated Senator Owan on his one-year anniversary in office and highlighted the significant benefits of AMGA, presenting it as an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s capabilities on a continental stage. He stressed that the Games would foster cooperation, camaraderie, and unity among African military personnel.

Senator Owan warmly welcomed General Musa and his team, expressing his gratitude for the visit. He emphasized the importance of hosting AMGA for both the military and Nigeria, especially given the country's recent hiatus from hosting major sporting events. 

The Minister assured the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ministry's commitment to working closely with the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) to ensure the Games' success. He requested detailed information on the Armed Forces' requirements to facilitate smooth execution and achieve their shared objectives.

This edition of AMGA marks Nigeria's second time hosting the event, which first took place in Kenya 24 years ago. The Games are expected to attract participants from 54 African countries competing in 19 sporting events, generating significant interest across the continent.

General Musa was accompanied by Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Sports at DHQ, and other senior officers.
