General Buba: Unwavering Commitment to National Security

In response to widespread protests across the country, the armed forces are working diligently to restore stability in affected areas. Heightened security measures have been implemented, particularly in regions where protests have turned violent.


Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, reported a tragic incident on the evening of July 31, 2024, in the northeast. A female suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in Kawuri Village, Konduga LGA, Borno State, resulting in the deaths of 17 civilians and injuries to several others who are currently receiving medical care.


Despite this tragedy, Major General Buba emphasized that military operations continue to achieve significant successes, especially in the northeast, northwest, north-central, and southeast zones. In the south-south region, efforts are focused on combating crude oil theft to enhance crude oil production.


He said in July 2024 alone, the armed forces neutralized 572 terrorists, arrested 790 suspected terrorists and other criminal elements, and rescued 479 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, 440 weapons and 10,589 rounds of ammunition were recovered, and crude oil theft amounting to over N3 billion was prevented.


Stating a detailed breakdown of recoveries for July General  Buba said, 232 AK47 rifles, 93 locally fabricated guns, 82 dane guns, 32 pump action guns, 5,041 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 2,768 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 659 cartridges, 63 assorted arms, and 2,259 assorted ammunition. Other recovered items include 3,650,080 liters of stolen crude oil, 625,518 liters of illegally refined AGO, 450 liters of DPK, and 1,230 liters of PMS.


Major General Buba reassured the public of the military's unwavering commitment to defending the country and protecting its citizens. He urged the populace to remain vigilant and not compromise on security, as it is crucial for the safety of all.
