Honoring a Hero: The Courage and Sacrifice of Lt. Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza

The Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other Security Agencies (PSNASA) has honored the late Lt. Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza, a Nigerian Navy officer who tragically lost his life during a courageous rescue mission.

Lt. Commander Gwaza's heroism is being celebrated as a testament to the unwavering commitment of naval personnel and security officers who put their lives on the line daily for the safety and protection of others.

Leading a rescue operation for MV AMBIKA 4, a dredging vessel in imminent danger of sinking at Okpobo field, Gwaza successfully saved 59 people onboard. Despite the perilous conditions, his actions ensured the safety of all those in danger, though he sadly paid the ultimate price.

In a statement, Ambassador Mary Abayomi Fatile, Convener of PSNASA, urged Nigerians to unite in support and recognition of security personnel like Gwaza, whose selflessness exemplifies the true spirit of service.

PSNASA expressed its deepest condolences to Gwaza’s family, offering support and prayers during this time of grief. Ambassador Fatile stressed the need for the nation to honor such acts of bravery, stating, “It is our duty to ensure that the courage and selflessness of heroes like Gwaza are duly recognized and appreciated.”
