The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed deep concern over a recent video circulating on Facebook that claims inmates at the Afokang Custodial Centre in Calabar are facing inhumane conditions, including being served poorly prepared beans for breakfast.

The minister describes the allegations as a severe violation of the standards of care and dignity owed to inmates.

The Minister has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the situation. He assured that any individuals found responsible for such mistreatment will face appropriate consequences.

The Minister emphasized that any shortcomings in the quality of food, sanitation, or overall welfare of inmates will not be tolerated. He called on the relevant authorities to ensure that all individuals in custody are treated with respect and humanity.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed his commitment to preventing any form of abuse or neglect in custodial settings. He also promised that the results of the investigation will be made public and that any necessary disciplinary measures will be enforced.
