42 African Nations Unite in Abuja for AMGA Games; Nigeria Shines in Multiple Sports

The historic gathering of 42 African nations in Abuja, Nigeria, marked a significant step toward fostering continental integration and solidarity among the armed forces in Africa through sports. 

The African Military Games Association (AMGA) event showcased the unity and competitive spirit of the continent's armed forces.

The Nigerian Armed Forces demonstrated exceptional performance in the obstacle crossing event at Giri Camp, emerging as overall winners in a thrilling display of skill and determination.

The men’s football team narrowly lost to Cameroon in a tense match that ended 1-0. Algeria showcased their dominance in another fixture, defeating Equatorial Guinea 2-0. Despite the setback, Nigeria will have a chance to redeem themselves as they compete for the bronze medal against Equatorial Guinea at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Saturday.

The Nigerian Armed Forces secured an impressive haul of 17 medals. The team claimed, 5 gold medals in women’s wrestling,6 silver medals in men’s Greco-Roman wrestling, and 4 bronze medals in men’s Greco-Roman wrestling.

Additionally, Nigeria triumphed in handball, winning gold in both the men’s and women’s finals against Ghana, further solidifying their dominance in the tournament.

As of this report, Nigeria’s medal tally stands at 7 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals, showcasing their strength across multiple disciplines.
