The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has called on citizens to remain calm following reports of Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists deploying drones against military positions.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, addressing journalists at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, he clarified that the drones used by the terrorists are not military grade and pose minimal threat.

“These drones are essentially toys, adapted to carry out harassment rather than effective attacks.

“There is no need for unnecessary panic, the use of drones on battlefields is not new, as seen globally in conflicts like Ukraine, Russia, and Israel-Hamas confrontation.

He stated that however, the drones employed by these groups lack the sophistication and effectiveness of professional or military-grade drones.

He reassured the public that appropriate measures are being taken to counter such activities, stating, “Since we understand their tactics, we are implementing strategies to neutralize their efforts. These are not attacks in the true sense but mere harassment attempts.”

General Buba also addressed rumors of foreign military bases in Nigeria, firmly denying their existence.

“Nigeria has consistently refused to allow foreign military bases on its soil. Claims suggesting otherwise are misleading and intended to create confusion,” he emphasized.

He reiterated Nigeria’s stance against becoming a battleground for proxy wars, warning that such claims are distractions.

“We remain focused on protecting our sovereignty and ensuring that our country does not become a stage for external conflicts".

General Buba assured citizens of the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives and addressing emerging threats effectively.
