Troops of the Nigerian military have achieved significant victories in their ongoing operations against terrorists in the North West region, neutralizing key figures in the notorious network led by Bello Turji.

Between January 20 and 21, 2025, military forces eliminated over 24 terrorists, including Aminu Kanawa and the second-in-command of Bello Turji. These operations targeted areas around Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Sokoto State and Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, briefed reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing that the death of Turji’s deputy, alongside other commanders and fighters, marks a significant setback for the terrorist group.

He stated that the losses would severely weaken the group’s military capabilities and operational structure.

In addition, troops inflicted critical injuries on several of Turji’s close associates, including Dosso (Turji’s younger brother) and Danbokolo, a trusted ally.

He said, during another operation at Fakai High Ground, troops neutralized a prominent terrorist named Suleiman, a loyalist of the late Halilu Sububu.

He added that, Suleiman was leading a reinforcement team to rescue Turji’s camp, which had been thrown into disarray, when he was killed in a fierce gunfight.

General Buba noted that the eliminated terrorists were responsible for numerous kidnappings and attacks across the North West, particularly in the LGAs of Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni in Zamfara and Sokoto States.

The military, he said, remains committed to sustaining the momentum until terrorist elements are completely eradicated. The ongoing operations aim to restore safety and security for all citizens in the region.
