MATAWALLE VISITS DICON AFTER ORDNANCE EXPLOSION IN KADUNA

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has visited the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna following an ordnance explosion that occurred at the facility on the morning of 20 September 2025.


The Minister expressed concern over the incident and reassured the public that the situation was under control, describing it as an accident.


He was briefed by officials on the immediate cause and response measures. Preliminary findings revealed that the explosion occurred while specialists were completing the destruction of expired materials, including ammonium nitrate, primer caps, propellants, and other hazardous substances.


The Minister emphasised that DICON continues to operate within established safety protocols and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the explosion and recommend preventive measures.


“Appropriate support will be provided to affected personnel and their families,” Matawalle stated.
