............Vows to Sustain Legacy of Excellence and Strengthen National Security

The Nigerian Army has witnessed a smooth transition of leadership as Major General Waidi Shaibu officially assumed duty as the 25th Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The event followed a colourful handing and taking over ceremony between the new Army Chief and the outgoing COAS, now Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

In his inaugural address, Major General Shaibu commended his predecessor for his exemplary leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to the Nigerian Army.

He particularly lauded General Oluyede’s strides in equipment modernization, infrastructural development, and the “Soldier First” initiative that prioritized troop welfare and operational readiness.

The new Army Chief pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor by enhancing synergy among security agencies and strengthening collaboration with government institutions to effectively tackle emerging security threats.

“I salute the courage, passion, resilience, and discipline of our troops in the field. Their sacrifices remain the cornerstone of our collective success,”
Major General Shaibu stated, assuring that his administration would sustain morale-boosting measures and ensure operational efficiency across all formations.

He expressed deep appreciation to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Nigerian Army. The ceremony also featured a moment of silence in honour of fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.
