The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to overcome security challenges across the country, declaring that troops remain resolute in confronting all threats to national peace and stability.

General Shaibu made the assertion during an operational visit to Yobe State, where he conducted a battlefield assessment and engaged troops under Operation HADIN KAI. The visit, which also aimed at boosting troop morale, saw the Army Chief received by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS acknowledged recent operational setbacks, including attacks on military positions, but stressed that the Army remains undeterred in discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

He noted that the military has continued to review and adjust its operational strategies in response to evolving threats, with a view to consolidating gains recorded in various theatres of operation.

“Despite the changing dynamics of security challenges, the Nigerian Army will continue to stand firm and decisively confront all forms of terrorism,” he said, while calling on state governments to strengthen support for troops on the frontline.

The Army Chief also commended the government and people of Yobe State for their sustained cooperation, describing it as critical to achieving lasting security outcomes in the region.

During his visit to the Headquarters, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East in Damaturu, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, accompanied by Senator Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit to the COAS over the recent loss of military personnel in encounters with terrorists.

Governor Zulum pledged enhanced collaboration and the development of additional strategies to support security agencies in tackling emerging threats.

General Shaibu, who later addressed troops, charged them to remain aggressive and steadfast in ongoing operations, urging them to honour the sacrifices of fallen comrades by sustaining the fight against insurgency.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, who represented Governor Buni, lauded the Nigerian Army for its critical role in restoring peace in conflict-affected areas. He acknowledged the resilience and dedication of troops despite operational pressures and offered prayers for personnel who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
