Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the recent attack on residents of Mbalom in Gwer-East Local Government Area, describing the incident as a heinous act against peaceful citizens.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor denounced the assault, allegedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen, as barbaric and a direct threat to the state’s peace and security. He expressed deep sympathy to families affected by the violence and assured them of the government’s unwavering support during the difficult period.

Governor Alia raised concerns over what he described as a disturbing pattern of calculated and selective attacks in parts of Benue State. He noted that the evolving nature of the violence, which he likened to a hydra-headed threat, would not be allowed to persist under his administration.

Reaffirming his commitment to protecting lives and property, the governor pledged to decisively confront all forms of criminality endangering communities across the state.

He also commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their prompt response to the incident and ongoing efforts to apprehend those responsible. According to him, security operatives have assured the government that the perpetrators are being tracked and will be brought to justice.

Governor Alia urged security agencies to intensify operations to prevent further attacks and ensure lasting peace in affected communities. He added that his administration is taking proactive steps to strengthen the state’s security architecture, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

While calling on residents to remain calm and law-abiding, the governor encouraged citizens to support security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

He reiterated that the Benue State Government remains resolute in its determination to safeguard its people and will not be deterred in its pursuit of peace, justice, and security for all.
