The Nigerian Army has taken a significant step toward strengthening operational effectiveness and institutional performance with the introduction of a standardized evaluation framework across its formations and units.

This move was highlighted during a sensitization seminar convened by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja. The forum brought together key stakeholders to enhance understanding and implementation of structured performance assessment mechanisms within the force.

In a statement issued by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, described the initiative as a critical milestone in advancing institutional development. Represented by the Military Secretary, Major General Everest Okoro, the Army Chief noted that the seminar marked the department’s first major engagement since its establishment, reflecting the service’s commitment to professionalism and operational excellence.

He explained that the Department of Standards and Evaluation serves as the Army’s quality assurance arm, responsible for enforcing compliance with established benchmarks, conducting periodic combat readiness assessments, and evaluating operational activities. According to him, these processes are designed to identify strengths, address systemic gaps, and promote continuous improvement through refined evaluation systems.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Major General Bobby Ugiagbe, said the seminar was aimed at promoting the systematic application of standards to enhance discipline, professionalism, and operational effectiveness within the Nigerian Army. He added that the initiative would support the institutionalization of uniform evaluation practices to achieve improved performance outcomes.

The seminar underscores the Nigerian Army’s deliberate effort to entrench a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement, while aligning its performance metrics and compliance systems with global best practices.
