The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has assured residents of the North-East region of adequate security arrangements ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, while urging heightened vigilance against possible security threats during the festive period.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the military command extended felicitations to Muslim faithful ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir 1447AH celebration scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026, and wished residents a peaceful and joyous celebration.

The command disclosed that extensive security measures had been put in place across the theatre of operations to safeguard lives and property throughout the festivities.

According to the statement, intelligence reports suggest that remnants of Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters may attempt isolated attacks targeting civilians during the celebration period, particularly through suicide bombings and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in densely populated locations.

However, the command reassured the public that such threats had been anticipated and countered through proactive deployments and enhanced surveillance operations.

“Troops have been forward-deployed to critical and vulnerable locations across all sectors of the theatre. Surveillance and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets have been fully activated, patrols intensified, while security forces are working closely with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force and community vigilance groups to forestall any threat,” the statement said.

As part of precautionary measures, Operation HADIN KAI advised residents to conduct Eid prayers and celebrations close to their homes and familiar environments, while avoiding large gatherings where possible.

The military also urged the public to maintain heightened vigilance in crowded areas such as markets, motor parks, banking halls and prayer grounds, and to promptly report suspicious individuals, unattended objects or unusual activities to security agencies.

Residents were further encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening exercises, avoid unnecessary movement especially at night or in areas with limited security presence and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

The Theatre Command called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to support ongoing security efforts by encouraging the timely reporting of credible information.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed that troops remain fully prepared and in control of the security situation across the North-East, stressing its determination to deny terrorists any operational space and ensure peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The command consequently wished the Muslim community a peaceful and rewarding Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
