Troops of Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, working alongside other security agencies, have foiled an attack by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during an intelligence-led operation in Imezi Owa Community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The operation, carried out on 6 May 2026, was reportedly launched following intelligence on the activities of terrorist collaborators within the community.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, troops advancing on foot into the community came under heavy attack from suspected terrorists operating from a building used as a hideout.

Three soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter, but troops were said to have maintained operational superiority, repelled the attackers and secured the area. The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to a military medical facility where they are currently receiving treatment.

The Army disclosed that during the exchange of gunfire, Improvised Explosive Devices stored inside the terrorists’ hideout detonated, sparking a fire that razed the building.

Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of additional IEDs, improvised hand grenades and a shrine allegedly used for ritual activities by the suspects. Security operatives later destroyed the shrine to prevent its continued use for criminal operations.

One suspected collaborator was arrested during the operation and has since been handed over to the Nigerian Police, Ezeagu Division, for further investigation alongside the recovered items.

The Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging law-abiding citizens in Imezi Owa and neighbouring communities to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information.

The military also warned members and sympathisers of the proscribed IPOB and ESN groups to desist from unlawful activities or face decisive action, stressing that ongoing operations would continue to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace across the South-East region.
