Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo Orders Investigation into Alleged Misconduct by Personnel

The Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct levelled against some army personnel by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D.

The Depot, in a statement issued by its Army Public Relations Officer, Major Yahaya Ibrahim, expressed concern over the allegations, assuring the public that the Nigerian Army remains committed to protecting citizens, particularly young Nigerians who represent the future of the country.

The statement noted that any action by personnel that contradicts the mandate and values of the Nigerian Army would not be tolerated, stressing that no student or law-abiding citizen should experience harassment, intimidation, assault, or any form of mistreatment from security personnel.

The Commandant directed that the facts surrounding the incident be established through a comprehensive investigation, with a commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable faces appropriate disciplinary measures in line with military regulations.

The NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, was urged to provide available evidence and witness accounts to support the investigation process and enable a fair assessment of the allegations.

Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, reaffirmed that the alleged conduct does not represent the training, discipline, and character expected of personnel under its command, assuring Nigerians that officers and soldiers are held to the highest professional standards.

The Commandant also expressed readiness to engage with the leadership of NANS Southwest Zone to find a constructive resolution and strengthen cooperation between the military and the student community.
