CAS Launches Youth Empowerment Programme for Children of Air Force Personnel

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has launched the Chief of the Air Staff Youth Empowerment Programme (CASYEP), a new initiative designed to equip young Nigerians in Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base communities with vocational skills, mentorship, educational support and career development opportunities.

The programme, unveiled on Thursday, received the endorsement of the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who described it as a strategic investment in Nigeria's future and one that aligns with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda on youth empowerment and human capital development.

Represented at the event by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Anthony Chukwuka, the minister commended the Nigerian Air Force for complementing the Federal Government's efforts to empower young people through skills acquisition, innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership development.

He urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the initiative with discipline and commitment, while assuring the Air Force of the ministry's readiness to collaborate in expanding similar programmes across the country.

Speaking at the launch, Air Marshal Aneke described CASYEP as more than an empowerment initiative, saying it symbolises "the ignition of hope, the unlocking of latent potential and a renewed commitment to the welfare of Nigerian Air Force personnel and the future of their children and families."

The Air Chief disclosed that the programme was inspired by his personal experience of growing up in an Air Force barracks as the son of an Air Warrant Officer, where he witnessed the resilience of military families alongside the limited opportunities available to many talented young people.

According to him, CASYEP was established to bridge those gaps through structured skills acquisition, mentorship, educational support and career guidance, enabling beneficiaries to become confident, skilled and self-reliant citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

He stressed that the initiative also supports the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda and called on parents, guardians and military commanders to support the programme to ensure its sustainability and long-term success.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal E.K. Gabkwet, highlighted the importance of investing in young people as part of the Nigerian Air Force's broader commitment to personnel welfare.

Also speaking, the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal A.A. Martins, presented an overview of CASYEP, outlining its objectives, implementation framework and expected impact on beneficiaries.

The event featured the screening of a documentary on the initiative, a maiden CASYEP Side Chat with youth development experts, the presentation and recognition of beneficiaries, as well as the official inauguration of the programme by the Chief of the Air Staff.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the initiative reflects the service's commitment to strengthening the welfare of military families by investing in the next generation.

The statement noted that by providing young people with practical skills, mentorship and educational opportunities, the programme is expected to enhance family resilience, nurture future leaders and contribute to national development while reinforcing the Nigerian Air Force's resolve to maintain a highly motivated, professional and mission-ready force.
