Customs Management Celebrates Adeniyi’s Renewed Global Mandate, Six-Month Extension

The management and personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have celebrated the renewed international recognition of the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, following the extension of his tenure as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council and his six-month appointment extension by President Bola Tinubu.

CGC Adeniyi was received by officers and men of the Service at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, upon his return from Brussels, Belgium, where he participated in the 147th and 148th WCO Council Sessions.

The Customs boss’ tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council was renewed for another year, a development attributed to his outstanding leadership and contributions towards advancing global customs administration.

Members of the NCS management team, while welcoming him back, congratulated the Comptroller General on the dual milestones and presented him with a souvenir in recognition of his leadership, commitment and efforts towards repositioning the Service.

In his response, Adeniyi expressed appreciation to the management team for their support, describing the gesture as a reflection of the unity and shared vision within the Nigeria Customs Service.

He revealed that he had travelled to Brussels with the expectation of handing over the leadership of the WCO Council but was instead given another mandate by members of the global customs body.

“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeniyi said.

The renewed WCO mandate, alongside the extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General, is expected to further strengthen ongoing reforms within the NCS, deepen international partnerships, and promote improved trade facilitation and customs administration in Nigeria.

The development also highlights the growing recognition of Nigeria’s role in shaping global customs policies under Adeniyi’s leadership.
