Defence Ministry Denies Resignation Rumour, Says Minister Remains Focused on National Security

The Office of the Minister of Defence has dismissed as false and malicious reports circulating on social media alleging that the Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), intends to resign from office.

In a statement issued by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the ministry described the claim as a completely fabricated rumour designed to mislead the public.

The statement stressed that there is no truth whatsoever in the reports, insisting that the Minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and is focused on advancing Nigeria's national security objectives.

According to the ministry, General Musa is dedicated to implementing the country's defence strategy, adding that the efforts of the Armed Forces under his leadership are already yielding positive results in the fight against insecurity.

"The rumours are absolute falsehood borne out of complete mischief," the statement said, urging Nigerians to disregard the misleading reports.

The ministry also cautioned media organisations, bloggers and social media users against disseminating unverified information, advising them to seek clarification from the Office of the Minister of Defence before publishing sensitive reports.

It reiterated that the Minister has neither indicated nor expressed any intention to step down from office, assuring Nigerians that he remains steadfast in the discharge of his constitutional duties.
