Amazing and colorful atmosphere in the 23rd Commonwealth Games yesterday as Team Nigeria dressed in their elegant green-and-white outfits which reflect the Nation's beautiful and rich cultural heritage. 

The remarkable and unforgettable experience was held at the OVO Hydro Arena, thereby setting the stage for the competitive sport fiesta at Glasgow, Scotland.

Indelible moments drew several applause and warmest cheers in the thousands of spectators as Nigeria 74 athletes match-past on their adored traditional attires with smiles on their faces. And it's the highlights of the memorable Nations parade.

However, its historic Commonwealth Games as non-Para Athletes and Para Athletes entered the arena together before the Opening Celebration began; therefore showcasing inclusion and unity.

More also, the massive audience were treated to a vibrant showcase of Glasgow's industrial legacy and status as a UNESCO City of Music, Scotland rich cultural heritage with a captivating blend of music, dance, storytelling and cutting-edge technology.

Adding icing to the cake was the dramatic entrance by his Majesty King Charles III and his adorable Queen Camilla, who appeared on stage through the iconic Doctor Who TARDIS, and the King formally declared the games open.

In his keynote address, he welcomed the 3,000 athletes and officials from across the Commonwealth, urging them to embrace friendship, excellence and unity through sport.

Team Nigeria are featured in 10 sports: weightlifting, boxing, 3*3 basketball, para athletes, track cycling, judo, 3*3 wheelchair basketball, para powerlifting, swimming, and athletics.

Meanwhile, the National Sport Commission has set a target of a record-breaking medal haul and an ambitious 20 gold from the quality and experienced athletes. And the squad combines established international stars with emerging talents expected to spearhead the nation's medal challenge.

World record 100m hurdle holder: Tobi Amusan, 100m sensation: Kanyinsola Ajayi, 400m star Samuel Ogazi, phenomenal Favour Ashe; shot putter Enekwechi Chukwuebuka, long jumper Prestina Ochonogor, triple jumper Ruth Usoro, weightlifters Rafiatu Lawal, Onome Didih alongside para powerlifting multiple champion:: Folashade Oluwafemiayo, Roland Ezurike and Esther Nworgu.

Nigeria team is looking forward to replicating her 1950 record of massive 271 medals comprising 82 gold, 84 silver and 105 bronze. Also, it remains one of the Commonwealth Games most successful nations in history.

After a colorful opening ceremony, attention will now shift to competition, which begins on Friday 24th as boxing, 3*3 basketball and para powerlifting begin their medal quest, aiming for a podium finish in the coming days.

In summary, if there's adequate incentives, lucrative welfare for athletes and officials with other juicy offers, the sky will be a stepping stone for team Nigeria at Glasgow 2026 Games in Scotland.
