Naval Base Abuja Busts Vehicle Theft Syndicate, Hands Suspect to Police

The Nigerian Navy has recorded another breakthrough in its internal security operations with the arrest of a suspected member of a notorious vehicle theft syndicate allegedly linked to the theft of more than 50 vehicles across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspect, identified as Habeeb Ajadi, was intercepted by operatives of Naval Base Abuja while attempting to leave the FCT following an intelligence-led operation aimed at strengthening security within the nation's capital.

In a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation formed part of the Navy's sustained collaboration with other security agencies to combat criminal activities and enhance public safety.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly impersonated an Inspector of the Nigerian Correctional Service to aid his criminal operations. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to being a member of a vehicle theft syndicate responsible for stealing vehicles from various locations across the FCT.

The Navy further disclosed that investigations uncovered a wider criminal network operating across state boundaries, with stolen vehicles allegedly transported and sold through accomplices outside the FCT.

It added that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate.

The statement noted that, in line with established inter agency procedures, the suspect, along with relevant exhibits and evidence, has been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting internal security operations through intelligence-driven initiatives and strengthened collaboration with sister agencies, stressing that it remains resolute in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the country.
