Troops Repel Coordinated ISWAP Infiltration Attempts in Borno
By Harriet Tornguvan
Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled multiple coordinated attempts by suspected ISWAP terrorists to infiltrate communities in Borno State, forcing the insurgents to retreat after intense engagements.
The failed attacks occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 10, between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., when the terrorists launched simultaneous infiltration attempts through Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis with the apparent aim of gaining access to Maiduguri metropolis.
In a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the military said troops detected the movement of the insurgents through established early warning systems and responded swiftly with coordinated firepower from multiple directions.
According to the statement, the rapid response effectively disrupted the terrorists' plans and prevented them from breaching the targeted locations.
The military also disclosed that troops foiled separate infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai during the same period.
It added that while pursuing the fleeing terrorists at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). However, no casualties were recorded among the troops, and the operational situation remained under control.
The military said the terrorists, overwhelmed by the troops' tactical manoeuvres, abandoned their mission and fled in disarray across all the affected axes.
It noted that troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to track down the fleeing insurgents, consolidate operational gains, dominate the affected areas and prevent any renewed threat to surrounding communities.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive offensive operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action and safeguarding lives and property across the North-East.
The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the region.
