The Federal Government is set to unveil a $1 billion Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme aimed at strengthening social protection, reducing poverty and promoting economic inclusion among vulnerable Nigerians.

The programme, to be unveiled on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is being implemented under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The initiative is being coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, headed by the Minister, Bernard M. Doro.

The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to formally unveil the programme, which the Federal Government said represents a major step towards building a more integrated, household-centred and results-driven social protection system.

According to a statement signed by the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Janet McDickson Noah, the new approach will strengthen the country’s social protection delivery architecture while expanding interventions targeted at poor and vulnerable households.

The government said greater emphasis would be placed on ensuring that social protection interventions translate into sustainable improvements in the livelihoods and wellbeing of beneficiaries.

A key component of the initiative is the One Humanitarian One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), an integrated national architecture designed to connect humanitarian response, social protection, poverty reduction, economic inclusion and graduation initiatives around households as the centre of intervention and measurement.

The strategic proposition of OHOPRS is: “One System, From Vulnerability to Prosperity.”

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction is expected to use the platform to articulate its strategic priorities, institutional reforms, programmes, delivery mechanisms and implementation pathways.

The government will also launch an Emergency Cash Transfer initiative targeting 7.6 million vulnerable households to provide timely financial support to families facing socioeconomic vulnerabilities and shocks.

Another feature of the event will be the launch of the Humanity First Magazine, a strategic communication and knowledge platform that will showcase government interventions, results, partnerships, innovations and human-impact stories across Nigeria’s humanitarian and poverty-reduction sector.

The programme is also expected to strengthen collaboration between the Office of the First Lady and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in efforts to ensure that vulnerable households are protected, empowered and progressively linked to sustainable pathways out of poverty.

The Federal Government said the Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme underscores its commitment to a more coordinated, responsive and results-oriented social protection system that places vulnerable Nigerians at the centre of national development.
