NCPC Boss Urges Staff to Embrace Continuous Improvement for Greater Productivity
By Harriet Tornguvan
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, has urged staff of the Commission to embrace continuous learning, diligence and personal development to enhance productivity and improve service delivery.
Adegbite made the call during a capacity building workshop organised for staff of the Commission by a four-man team from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) at the NCPC headquarters in Abuja on August 11, 2026.
The workshop, themed “Moving from Common Knowledge to Common Practice,” focused on Productivity Measurement and Improvement Scheme in the Public Sector and was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and strategies for improving efficiency and performance in the public service.
Speaking at the event, the NCPC boss said continuous improvement was essential to personal and institutional growth, stressing that “the biggest room in life is the room of improvement.”
He emphasised that productivity begins with an individual's attitude towards work, urging staff to approach their responsibilities with commitment and seriousness regardless of whether their superiors were present.
“You must be diligent in your duty. Do not wait for your superior to be around before you do your work. Your commitment should come from within, because every responsibility entrusted to you matters,” he said.
Adegbite cautioned staff against “eye service,” urging them to develop a strong work ethic and carry out their duties diligently even when they were not being monitored.
According to him, the success of the Commission depends on the collective contributions of all its staff, making it necessary for every employee to take ownership of assigned responsibilities and consistently strive for excellence.
He further charged the staff to uphold the Commission's slogan, “Service and Satisfaction,” by ensuring professionalism, integrity and excellence remained central to their daily activities.
The Executive Secretary also stressed the importance of adequate preparation, noting that proper planning and readiness were essential ingredients for high productivity.
“Adequate preparation will lead to high productivity,” he said, urging participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the workshop and apply the knowledge acquired to their daily responsibilities.
Adegbite warned against allowing the lessons from the training to remain theoretical, challenging staff to translate knowledge into practical action.
“Let what you have learnt here become part of your everyday practice. We must move from common knowledge to common practice,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to the NSIWC team for sharing its expertise with the Commission's workforce, noting that regular capacity development was vital to building a competent, efficient and productive public service.
The NCPC chief maintained that improvement was a continuous process, urging staff to regularly assess their performance, identify areas requiring improvement and take deliberate steps towards professional and personal development.
The workshop also provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of productivity measurement and explore practical approaches to improving efficiency and service delivery.
A key focus of the training was the importance of goal setting and goal getting, which were identified as critical to the successful execution of pilgrimage activities and the achievement of the Commission's objectives.
The NSIWC team was led by the Director of Productivity, Prices and Incomes Department, Babatunde Oresanya.
The training underscored the need for NCPC staff to turn knowledge into action, make diligence a daily habit and contribute collectively to building a workplace where excellence and improved service delivery remain shared responsibilities.
