Army, ICPC Strengthen Partnership Against Terrorism Financing
By Harriet Tornguvan
The Nigerian Army has sought stronger collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to tackle terrorism financing and illicit financial flows sustaining insurgency and criminal activities in the North-East.
The move is aimed at strengthening efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in Adamawa State and the wider country through improved intelligence gathering, information sharing and financial investigations.
The Commandant of the Nigerian Army’s 23 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Adamu Abdul, made the call when he led a high-level delegation on a courtesy visit to the Adamawa State Command of the ICPC.
Abdul said the Army recognised the critical role of the anti-corruption commission in tracing and blocking the complex financial networks that support terrorist and criminal operations.
He noted that his assessment of the ICPC over time had convinced him that the commission remained a key stakeholder in the fight against terrorism financing and illicit financial flows, particularly through intelligence gathering and information sharing.
The Commandant expressed the Army’s readiness to develop a stronger and more structured partnership with the ICPC in addressing financial activities that undermine national security.
Responding, the ICPC Commissioner said both institutions had collaborated over the years in areas including personnel training and information sharing.
The Commissioner stressed that such cooperation had become increasingly important in view of the security and governance challenges facing the country.
The Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) assured the Army that the ICPC would continue to work closely with the military within its mandate, particularly on financial and intelligence-related issues capable of undermining efforts to combat terrorism and other criminal activities.
