An Italian Catholic priest, Sandro Ferretto, who spent 12 years serving as a missionary in Kenya’s Baringo County, has left the priesthood and married a Kenyan woman, Sharon Jepng’ok.

Ferretto, who served in Kasiela and Mochongoi as a missionary priest, reportedly met Jepng’ok during his years of service in the county.

The couple formalised their union through a traditional Koito ceremony held in Baringo South on Sunday, marking a new chapter in their relationship.

Ferretto’s decision to leave the priesthood before marrying has attracted attention, particularly because of his long service as a Catholic missionary in the region.

The relationship, which developed during his years in Baringo, ultimately culminated in marriage, with the couple celebrating their union according to local tradition.

Their story has since been widely described as an example of love overcoming cultural, geographical and religious barriers.
