Qatar based humanitarian organisation, Qatar Charity, has expanded its operations in Nigeria with plans to scale up development and social welfare initiatives, including an ongoing $10 million integrated housing project in Abuja.

The organisation’s strategic expansion was disclosed during a courtesy visit by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to the headquarters of Qatar Charity in Doha.

Yakubu held discussions with the organisation’s Executive Vice President and Global Programs Officer, Nawaf Abdullah Al-Hammadi, on strengthening long-term development cooperation between Qatar Charity and Nigeria.

A major focus of the discussions was the Gaduwa housing project in Abuja, a $10 million development designed to provide residential accommodation alongside essential social infrastructure, including a health clinic and school.

The integrated approach is aimed at addressing multiple community needs by combining housing with access to basic healthcare and education.

The Nigerian Ambassador expressed the Federal Government’s support for the initiative, assuring Qatar Charity of the Nigerian Embassy’s readiness to facilitate diplomatic clearance and inter-agency coordination required to support the organisation’s expanded operations.

He also said the partnership could provide a framework for replicating similar integrated development projects in other parts of the country.

“Qatar Charity has demonstrated a genuine and practical commitment to the well-being of Nigerian communities,” Yakubu said.

He stressed that sustainable community development required more than the provision of housing, noting that access to healthcare and education was equally important.

“ Housing alone is not enough; access to basic healthcare and education must go hand in hand,” he said.

According to him, the partnership would not only contribute to development outcomes in beneficiary communities but would also strengthen the broader relationship between Nigeria and Qatar.

The expansion of Qatar Charity’s field operations is expected to provide a platform for increased humanitarian and development interventions across Nigeria, with greater emphasis on sustainable projects rather than short-term relief initiatives.
