Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attack by members of the Lakurawa terrorist group on a Forward Operating Base in Maiyama, Kebbi State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of October 7, 2026, when a large number of terrorists, reportedly operating on more than 100 motorcycles, stormed the military base with assorted weapons, including General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs).

In a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops responded swiftly and effectively, forcing the attackers to withdraw without achieving their objective.

According to him, the terrorists abandoned weapons, equipment and other logistics as they fled the area following the troops' response.

He said subsequent exploitation and pursuit operations around the area led to the recovery of 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device believed to have been used by the terrorists during the attack.

Danja said the recovery of the weapons, ammunition, communication equipment and motorcycles constituted a significant setback to the operational capability of the terrorist group in the area.

He added that the general area remained firmly under the control of the troops, while aggressive patrols, clearance and dominance operations continued to track and neutralise fleeing members of the group.

The Theatre Command, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting communities and denying terrorists the freedom to operate within the Joint Operations Area.
