The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned newly constructed accommodation blocks for soldiers at the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, reaffirming the Army's commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel under the "Soldier First" initiative.

The commissioning, which took place on Friday, formed part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to provide decent housing and better living conditions for officers and soldiers across its formations.

Speaking at the ceremony, the COAS described the provision of safe, secure and conducive accommodation for personnel and their families as a strategic priority, stressing that quality housing plays a vital role in boosting morale, enhancing operational readiness and improving administrative efficiency.

He noted that soldiers who are well-motivated and adequately catered for are better equipped to protect Nigeria's territorial integrity and respond effectively to evolving security threats.

Lieutenant General Shaibu said sustained investment in personnel welfare remains a key pillar in building a more professional, resilient and combat-ready Nigerian Army capable of fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.

The Army Chief also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support and the provision of resources that have strengthened personnel welfare and enhanced the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the newly commissioned accommodation blocks underscore the Army's resolve to prioritise the well-being of its personnel while enhancing their capacity to effectively discharge their duties in support of national security.
