Commonwealth Games 2026: Ajayi settle for Bronze in Men's 100m Final

Astonishing and record-breaking moment as Track and Field superstar Kayinsola Ajayi became the Nigeria's first male to win a 100m medal thereby overcoming Twenty years jinx in Athletics.

However, the famous Ajayi sprinter crossed the finish line in 9.90 seconds with a legal wind reading of +1.3m/s to secure third place in a high-quality final, earning another athletics medal for Team Nigeria.

Excitedly, the bronze medal ended a long wait since Olusoji Fasuba won silver at the 2006 Melbourne (Australia) Commonwealth Games, reaffirming Nigeria’s return as a force in the 100m event.

In 2022 Birmingham (United Kingdom) 10th overall in the women’s High Jump Temitope Adeshina, eventually returned to the Commonwealth Games 2026 and won a Bronze medal. Besides her charming smiles; Adeshina has really shown consistency, and thoroughly deserves this moment.

Elsewhere, neighboring Cameroonian sprinting sensation won the 2026 Commonwealth Games 100m Champion for the first time. Shockingly, Emmanuel Eseme made history by breaking his country National Records in 9.98s for (semis) and (final) 9.83s.

Sadly, Rosemary Chukwuma who finished top during heat 1 of women’s 100m semifinals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in style; surprisingly pulled up in her race with an injury, and just managed to jog to the finish line. Chukwuma clutched her left thigh while leaving the track.

While in Boxing, Patricia Mbata bowed out in the quarterfinal of the women's 75kg boxing event after a narrow defeat to England's Mary Kate Smith. And the bout ended in a 3-2 split decision, missing out on a place in the semifinals.

Despite competing in the torrential downpour at the Scotstounhill Stadium and giving her best, the loss is painful for Nigeria prodigy and Commonwealth debutant Miracle Oluebube Ezechukwu.

In a nutshell, if Nigerians adequately manage Sport like business, give athletes and coaches good welfare treatment also, start hosting International events regularly; certainly, the sky will be a stepping stone.
