2027–2031 National Assembly: Nigerians’ll Have Confidence in Our Legislation — Maisukwati

A House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Hon. Hussaini Garba Maisukwati, has promised to provide effective representation and quality legislation if elected to represent Lau, Karim Lamido and Ardo Kola Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.

Maisukwati, who has secured the PDP ticket for the constituency, said his ambition was driven by the need to provide his constituents with a genuine voice in government and address the challenges confronting the people.

Speaking in an interview, the aspirant said he decided to seek election to the Green Chamber because he believed his experience, exposure and leadership capacity would enable him to effectively represent the interests of his constituents.

According to him, “Someone has to be there to do the job. My people know that I have what it takes and they have been urging me to take up the responsibility to represent them.”

Maisukwati expressed optimism about his chances in the 2027 general election, saying his successful emergence from the party primaries had strengthened his confidence.

He said the people of the constituency had demonstrated trust in his ability to deliver, adding that he was determined to justify their confidence if elected.

On the major challenges facing his constituents, Maisukwati identified poor road infrastructure and inadequate basic amenities, high unemployment, insecurity and the need for greater empowerment opportunities.

He promised to make these issues priorities in the National Assembly, stressing that effective representation must be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of the people.

The aspirant also advocated greater youth participation in politics, saying young Nigerians should overcome their fear of political participation and become actively involved in the democratic process.

He urged youths to seek political offices and support leaders with proven records of integrity and competence.

“Politics is important, and a way to have a say in the way we are led. Let our fellow youths know this and embrace politics. Come out and seek political office. Vote for leaders who are tested and trusted,” he said.

Maisukwati said he had been encouraging young people to embrace leadership by advising them to see political and leadership positions as opportunities to serve the people rather than avenues for personal enrichment.

He added that he had also encouraged youths to accept appointments where they could demonstrate their talents and contribute positively to society.

On criticism that the current National Assembly has been a “rubber stamp” of the executive, Maisukwati said the legislature must maintain its constitutional role of providing checks and balances.

He said he would work with other lawmakers in the 2027–2031 National Assembly to strengthen legislative independence and restore public confidence in the quality of legislation.

“As for the issue of allegedly being a rubber stamp, I cannot say much, but I believe it is not good for the National Assembly to be a rubber stamp. There are supposed to be checks and balances. When we get there, for the 2027–2031 National Assembly, we’ll definitely correct the wrongs so that Nigerian people will have confidence in our legislation,” he said.

On insecurity in Taraba State, the PDP candidate described security as one of his major priorities, stressing that peace was essential for economic development and food security.

He explained that persistent insecurity could prevent farmers from accessing their farms, thereby worsening food shortages and increasing hardship among the people.

“Fighting insecurity is my watchword. We all need and desire a sane society where our lives can thrive in peace and harmony,” he said.

Maisukwati pledged to support legislation and policies aimed at strengthening security and creating an environment where residents could live, farm and conduct their businesses without fear.

He maintained that addressing insecurity would also contribute to reducing hunger and desperation, noting that a peaceful society was necessary for sustainable development.

The aspirant therefore called on the people of Lau, Karim Lamido and Ardo Kola Federal Constituency to support his ambition, promising to use the opportunity to promote effective representation, youth development, security, infrastructure and economic empowerment.
