Angélique Kidjo Makes History as First African Artist Honoured With Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

Beninese music icon and five-time Grammy Award winner, Angélique Kidjo, has made history as the first African artist to receive a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Kidjo was honoured at a ceremony attended by family members, friends and prominent figures, including Benin-born Hollywood actor Djimon Hounsou and Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold.
The historic recognition celebrates Kidjo’s more than four-decade career and her remarkable contribution to global music and the promotion of African culture.
Born in Benin, the celebrated singer has built an international career by blending traditional African sounds and influences from her homeland with genres including funk, jazz and pop.
Over the years, Kidjo has used her music to showcase Africa’s rich cultural heritage to audiences across the world, earning critical acclaim and numerous international honours in the process.
Her five Grammy Awards further underscore her status as one of Africa’s most influential and successful musical exports.
