PDP Condoles Amaechi Over Mother's Death, Urges Strength in Grief

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid a condolence visit to former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, following the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Amaechi.

The delegation, led by the National Chairman of the PDP Interim National Working Committee, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), visited Amaechi at his Abuja residence to sympathise with him and his family over the bereavement.

Speaking during the visit, Turaki described the loss of a mother as a painful experience, noting that no one is ever fully prepared for such a moment. 

He said the PDP shared in Amaechi's grief, recalling that he served Rivers State as Speaker of the House of Assembly and later as Governor on the party's platform.

"Nothing prepares anybody for the loss of a parent, especially a mother. We can only imagine the deep loss and grief that you and your family are going through. 

"As a party on whose platform you served the good people of Rivers State as Speaker and later as Governor, we share in your grief and encourage you to be strong, knowing the certainty of death and its role as a window to immortality," Turaki added.

Responding, Amaechi expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership for the visit and their words of comfort. He reflected on the sacrifices made by his parents, particularly his late mother, in raising him and his siblings.

The former governor also commended the Turaki-led PDP for what he described as its resilience and commitment to defending Nigeria's multi-party democracy. 

He stressed that greater cooperation among opposition parties remains essential if they are to unseat President Bola Tinubu's administration in the next general election.

According to Amaechi, the opposition must continue to strengthen collaboration and build a united front ahead of the polls, warning that failure to do so could pave the way for the incumbent administration to secure another term with little resistance.

Members of the PDP delegation included National Secretary Wonyengikuro Daniel, Deputy National Secretary Richard Ihediwa, National Treasurer Isa Abubakar, National Organising Secretary Theophilus Dakas Shan, Kebbi State governorship candidate Abdullahi Ibrahim, and National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong.
