The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday joined the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, at the launch of an online discount shop for Armed Forces personnel in Abuja.

The digital welfare initiative, launched at Defence Headquarters, is designed to provide serving and retired military personnel, veterans and their families with access to essential goods at discounted prices.

Speaking at the event, Akume described the initiative as a practical intervention aimed at improving the welfare of members of the Armed Forces and their families.

He said the platform would leverage digital technology to make quality goods more accessible to military personnel at preferential prices.

Also speaking, the CDS described the initiative as a practical demonstration of the Armed Forces’ people-centred approach to personnel welfare.

Oluyede disclosed that plans were underway to develop a comprehensive database, increase the number of participating vendors and establish physical outlets to complement the online platform.

A major highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group for the implementation of the online discount scheme.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces to strengthen personnel welfare through digital innovation and partnerships with the private sector, while extending practical support to serving personnel, veterans and their families.
