END OF AN ERA: CAPTAIN VICTOR ANTHONY KOKO RETIRES AFTER A STELLAR CAREER
By Sunny Canto
After years of active service to Nigerian basketball, our Captain, our leader, our legend Victor Anthony Koko has officially called time on his professional career.
Koko is not just a player, he is the very embodiment of the KingsMen spirit.
Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the 6ft 9in Center/Power Forward began his journey with us in 2009 where he became the heart of a dynasty.
He was instrumental in every success we have enjoyed both domestically and internationally:
8x Nigerian Premier League Champion 1x with Mark Mentors (2015) and 7x with Rivers Hoopers (2011, 2012, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 & 2026)
NPBL Final MVP 2021 after a dominant double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks in the final vs Gombe Bulls.
Basketball Africa League (BAL) Bronze Medalist 2024 leading us to our best-ever BAL finish after winning the Sahara Conference and beating Cape Town Tigers 80-57 in the 3rd place game.
Crown Elite Championship Winner — 2022
Louis Edem Invitational Champion — 2023
Nigeria National Team — Represented Nigeria at FIBA AfroCan 2019, AfroBasket 2021, and FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2019.
A leader on and off the court, Koko captained the KingsMen to multiple BAL appearances and to an unbeaten 13-0 run in 2023.
In honour of his immense contribution, Koko’s iconic jersey No. 15 has been officially retired and will never be worn by any player in the future. It will hang in the rafters where it belongs.
Thank you for the blood, sweat, blocks and buckets.
Forever a King. Forever our Captain.
