The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of military personnel in the crash of a Nigerian military aircraft with tail number NAF 931.

In a statement issued by the Minister, General Musa said the crash claimed the lives of officers and airmen who were on a routine flight mission while serving the nation.

He described the deceased personnel as dedicated patriots who exemplified military professionalism, loyalty and commitment to the defence of Nigeria.

General Musa, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of the Armed Forces, as well as the families, loved ones and colleagues of the deceased.

He also expressed sympathy to the families of civilians who were on board the ill-fated aircraft.

The Minister said the loss was a painful blow to the Armed Forces and the country, stressing that the deceased personnel had served with courage, devotion and selflessness.

He disclosed that a comprehensive investigation had been ordered to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and establish its cause.

According to him, the investigation will also help ensure that all necessary operational safety protocols are reinforced across military aviation units.

General Musa prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for God to grant their families, the military community and Nigerians the strength to bear the loss.
